Michael J. Granado, PhD, PT, ATC, CSCS
Dr. Michael J. Granado is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Western University of Health Sciences. He is also a licensed physical therapist (since 2002) and certified athletic trainer (ATC, since 1999) whose clinical expertise centers on orthopedic rehabilitation, post-operative management, and sports medicine across high school, collegiate, professional, and Olympic-level athletes. He has served on sports medicine staffs for the World Gymnastics Championships and NCAA Division I athletics at the University of California, Berkeley, and previously directed multiple outpatient orthopedic clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area for NovaCare Rehabilitation. He also is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Dr. Granado earned his B.S. in Exercise Science (Exercise Physiology emphasis) from the University of California, Davis, an M.P.T. from California State University, Long Beach (2001), and his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science from Loma Linda University (2018). A dual member of the APTA Section on Research and Sports Physical Therapy Section, his research interests reside in sports medicine and movement dysfunction. His emphasis is on optimizing shoulder and foot biomechanical mechanisms (with peer-reviewed publications in leading foot and ankle journals) and has also presented at various conferences. He has an emerging interest in standardized return-to-play outcome measures and criteria. Dr. Granado has authored or edited over 70 physical therapy articles for CINAHL’s Rehabilitation Reference Center database and led the development and state-level accreditation (in 12 states) of its online continuing education program for physical therapists and assistants.
