  • Bank of America Philanthropy Solutions
    BofA PS is an introductory portal to foundations in California and other states. You can search by foundation name or program type. The FAQ section has good information.
  • Candid
    Formerly GuideStar.org, view U.S. foundation profiles, see IRS Form 990 and learn who they’ve funded in the past, see grant guidelines, eligibility criteria and FAQ’s. You can look them up by EIN, location, name, or search key words.
  • Foundation Directory Online (FDO) Guide
    You enter a brief description of your work and what you’re looking for. Search results return grants, recipients, and grant makers. You’ll have to create an account but there are no fees.
  • FundsforNGOs
    This is a free newsletter subscription that provides online grant resources, many of which are free. The grant maker database is not free, the information is solid. The newsletter comes out weekly so you may start to pile up in your inbox!
  • Grant Gopher
    For non-profits, schools and municipalities. You may search by location, program, and key words. They often feature grants that are currently open to applications.
  • GRANTS.GOV
    For federal money. You will need to set up an account but access to the database if free.
  • GrantStation Insider
    Free newsletter emailed weekly. It features app deadlines by location and includes federal grant opportunities. You will have to create an account.
  • J.P. Morgan’s Private Banking Foundation Finder
    Nationwide online foundation grant application finder. You can search by name, location, and program type.
  • Wells Fargo Philanthropic Services
    Services to non-profits. Each foundation’s guidelines are different, so it takes some reading to decide if one is right for your project.
