The WesternU Undergraduate Research Internship Program pairs motivated students with faculty researchers conducting real, impactful science. You'll gain lab skills, build your CV, and contribute to work that matters.

How to Apply
The application process is straightforward. Here's what to expect from start to placement.
Complete the online application, upload your personal statement and letter of recommendation
Selected applicants interview with faculty mentors. Prepare to discuss your goals, schedule, and research interests.
Before you can begin in lab, you must complete and sign the volunteer forms, general liability waiver, and complete the required CITI training.
Required Volunteer Forms
Once placed, every undergraduate participating in a research internship at WesternU, must complete and sign the forms below before they can begin working in lab.
Registers you as a WesternU volunteer. Completed with your faculty supervisor to confirm your role, schedule, and the safety training that applies to research activities.
Affirms the terms of your volunteer appointment — including that the role is uncompensated, your confidentiality obligations, and assignment of any work created to WesternU.
Assumption of Risk, Release of Claims, and Indemnification Agreement for laboratory volunteer participation. Required before working in any WesternU lab.

Student-Faculty Interview
After you have completed and submitted the Application form and the Lab Selector form, we will contact you to schedule an interview with the professor of one of the labs you have selected.
The interview is casual and conducted either via Zoom or in-person. If you're using Zoom, please make sure you are logged in on time and that you have questions to ask regarding the research project and the lab environment.
Eligibility Requirements
While freshmen are welcome, preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework.
A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required at the time of application.
The number of hours that are expected should be discussed during the interview process
