A panel of speakers presented at an April 2023 fireside chat during APHA's National Public Health Week. The fireside chat for public health professionals focused on culturally appropriate mental health programs. Dr. Matacotta and panelists discussed mental health as a core component of public health and why it is essential to recognize and prioritize it. In addition, Dr. Matacotta discussed why individuals from some communities face worse mental health outcomes and barriers to accessing care. Research supports the positive healthcare impact of healthcare providers spending time learning about different communities and addressing social determinants of health.
